Where To Stay In Beijing On A Budget - Beijing Sunrise Hostel Review
Finding somewhere cheep and pleasant to stay in big cities around the world is often one of the toughest challenges that backpackers face. The Beijing Sunrise Hostel is one of two major hostels in the city (Leo hostel being the other).
Price per night: ~£11
The hostel is located about a five minute walk from the metro station Xisi which gives direct access to all the major sights in the city. Its very central and theres plenty of eateries round and about within a ten minute walk.
As I said at the beginning, the hostel is pretty big and split over three floors. Theres an on-site café/bar and I was pretty impressed at the food. There was a great choice of both east and western food - all at pretty competitive prices for Beijing. There's plenty of showers and toilets although they weren’t always clean, especially in mornings during rush hour. Towels could be rented for 30 Yuan and you could do your washing for 20 Yuan. The 10 bed dorm rooms were very cramped and space was limited, although this is very common in big cities as the price of land is so expensive…
There are five members of staff, each of them are amazingly nice. They all speak a decent amount of English while one of them is pretty much fluent. They were able to help give directions to major attractions and give recommendations of when to visit etc.
This area really comes down to who is staying at the hostel with you. Rooms are only as clean as the people you’re staying with. Due to the hostel being so big, its kinda evevatable that during busy periods, places like the toilets and shower areas will become a bit of a mess. Overall, it was okay but wasn’t the best - what you come to associate with China.
Okay, undoubtedly the most important category in any review - the WiFi. The WiFi here was pretty good and I generally didn’t have any issues at all with it, however, due to the ‘great firewall of China’ there really isn’t much browsing etc. that you can do…
As I said at the beginig of the post, finding somewhere cheep and ha
lf decent is very hard in big cities but Beijing Sunrise hostel seems to manage it. The hostel is nothing special but it does act as a great base for exploring the city.
